Contemporaria - Home Photo

Contemporaria recently opened the doors of its Georgetown location in the heart of the new design district in Cady’s Alley. The space was designed by Washington DC based architect David Jameson with the collaboration of architect and owner Deborah Kalkstein. The 4,000 square foot gallery is defined by a concrete entrance ramp that resembles a skate board park, giving a contrast between an industrial and a very sophisticated look. Poured concrete floors and walls paired with a beautiful ebony veneer wall and architectural track lighting by Flos create a perfect environment to showcase furniture by the best Italian manufacturers such as Minotti, Molteni, Cappellini and MDF amongst others. A feeling of contrast between refined and rough, between tailored and natural, between warm and cold is what you experience inside the gallery. Design is everywhere you turn in the store, from Bosca oak interior doors to a bathroom designed by Antonio Citterio for H2O with orange Venetian plaster walls by local artist Herve Nosal. Also you will see a working kitchen from Elmar and a 10 foot tall closet system by Molteni. The store showcases original art and photography, presenting new artists four times a year. Contemporaria also hosts architectural lectures, which are sponsored by the local contemporary architects and designers of AIA such as Mark McInturff, Robert Cole & Sophie Prevost, Robert Gurney and David Jameson. You can click on our News & Updates page for information about what is happening next.
